10 Years Apache Software Foundation
Ten years ago, the Apache Group decided to give its Apache HTTP Server a secure base for the future. To achieve their goal, the Apache Software Foundation was formed.
Currently consisting of over 300 “all-volunteer” members who, as emphasized by Foundation Chairman Jim Jagielski, include some of the most talented open source developers in the world. A further 2000 “commiters” around the globe contribute to the dozens of projects overseen by the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), including the popular, 15 year old HTTP Server.
Celebrations are presently underway with keynotes and presentations being held at the ApacheCon Europe 2009 in Amsterdam. The big party is planned for ApacheCon 2009 in Oakland, California, from November 2 to 6.
A live streaming of some presentations at ApachCon Europe is available for free viewing. They include “Data Management in the Cloud” by Raghu Ramakrishnan, “Behind the Scenes of the Apache Software Foundation” by Lars Eilebrecht, “Open sourcing the analyst business – turning proprietary knowledge inside out” from James Govennor and “The Apache Pioneer's Panel – 10 years of the Apache Software Foundation” with Lars Eilebrecht, Dirk-Willem van Gulik, Jim Jagielski, Sally Khudari and Cliff Skolnick.
