ATI Stream: AMD releases SDK for OpenCL

Oct 21, 2009

AMD has released an ATI Stream Software Development Kit, a developer tool that enables applications to be written in the Open Computing Language (OpenCL).

OpenCL provides a platform that enables powerful graphic processors to accelerate applications, which considering the high performance of modern 3D graphics is an attractive option. OpenCL also works with CPUs. According to AMD, the Stream SDK has been certified by Khronos, the consortium responsible for the maintainance of OpenCL standards.

Supported operating systems include Windows XP and above and on the Linux front, openSUSE 11.0 and Ubuntu 9.04, both in the 32 and 64 bit versions. On the hardware side of things, in-house graphic chips are mentioned, such as those used in diverse Radeon and Firestorm models. Information and downloads can be found on AMD's Stream SDK website.
