Linux from Scratch 6.5 Available

Aug 18, 2009

The Linux from Scratch (LFS) intensive training has been updated to version 6.5.

According to LFS author and project lead Matthew Burgess, the updated Linux custom-build system now supports Kernel 2.6.30.2, Glibc 2.10.1 and GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) 4.4.1. The new LFS version was also upgraded to address security and readability.

LFS gives step-by-step instructions on how build a Linux system from ground up. The extended subprojects Beyond Linux from Scratch (BLFS) and Cross Linux from Scratch (CLFS) go even further by customizing the LFS installation by making it more useful and providing the means for cross-compiling on different systems, respectively. The course is available online and as PDF, HTML and XML downloads. The corresponding LiveCD provides a build environment and host, although it lags somewhat behind in not being updated from version 6.3 since 2007.
