New Oracle Database Driver Accelerates PHP
High availability and scalability are Oracle’s objectives with the new database driver for PHP. The pre-release version is available for testing now.
The new OCI8 Database Driver for PHP supports Oracle database 11g functionality including Resident Connection Pooling (DRCP) and Fast Application Notification. Oracle is aiming to support several thousand simultaneous connections and high availability on a single industrial standard. The PHP script language and the database will be compatible with applications that use extended functionality without code modifications while at the same time minimizing memory requirements.
For more information on the OCI8 driver and an initial beta download, visit the Oracle website. The code has been released under the PHP license.
