The virtualization breakthrough has not reduced the number and diversity of operating systems that admins must install and manage. Uranos server sets out to give administrators of complex operating system zoos more freedom.

Mario Gzuk once faced the task of installing to a mixed group of operating systems, all without manual intervention, as far as possible. He really wanted to do this with Unattended, a Linux tool that automatically rolls out various Windows systems in a computer pool. However, the lack of a user interface and a few other aspects bothered him. So, as is often the case in the free software scene, Gzuk set off to develop his own framework, Uranos, building on Unattended.
