The free wiki project TWiki is currently embroiled in a contentious dialogue. The TWIKI.NET venture is undergoing a new governance model that many developers consider a hostile takeover. Without further ado, developers have decided to launch their own, separate NextWiki.org project.

Along with its ongoing work on Lenny, the Debian project is still attending to its version 4.0 called Etch. Its now fifth update includes bug fixes and security patches.

The upcoming version 5.0 of Debian GNU/Linux, codenamed Lenny, provides for the first time not only image downloads for CD and DVD, but also for Blu-ray disks, along with live images.

The Dillo project yesterday released version 2.0 of the lean browser for download. It’s basically a rewrite of the user interface because Dillo has replaced the older GTK with the new FLTK2 toolkit.

Linux Foundation has released its first beta of the Linux Standard Base (LSB) version 4.0. The providers have already promised developers an easier work environment through the SDK, shell script and application checker. The successes are logged in the FOSSBazaar workgroup.

The Debian 5.0 release missed its intended deadline of September and the project has been silent as yet about any news of an update. The latest guess from developers' circles is that "Lenny" will not be ready until June of 2009.

Release of the new Debian 5.0, codenamed “Lenny”, has been postponed. Scheduled for September, Lenny still suffers from too many release critical problems (RC bugs), and until these bugs are fixed, there will be no “Lenny”.

In October the free Linux project from Novell will for the first time elect its own board members. Deadline for applications to vote or stand is September 24th.

Before Ubuntu users can run the Firefox open source browser, they will henceforth need to accept extensive licensing terms. According to Mark Shuttleworth, the terms were imposed by Mozilla Corporation.

The stable version of Debian 5.0 is scheduled for September, but KDE backports are available already.
