Easy Peasy, the Ubuntu derivative for e-books has been released in version 1.1. Based on Ubuntu 8.04, the distribution, published by Jon Ramvis in 2007, is a customized version of Ubuntu for netbooks with a Netbook Remix interface. The difference is in a couple of scripts which makes netbook installation easier and some pre-installed proprietary applications like Skype, Flash and Picasa. The distro works with Asus Netbooks 7xx, 9xx and 1000 and also Acer Aspire One. Easy Peasy was originally called Ubuntu Eee, but had to be changed after protests from Canonical.

The first thing we notice with version 1.1 is the new look. Developers have set a new icon theme, wallpaper, log-in and splash screens. The Ubuntu logo has been removed and bugs fixed. The Ubiquity installer no longer starts after installation and the package-manager now recognizes the essential package sources. Also included is a bugtracker, a rather sparse re-worked webpage and upgrades for Songbird, Picasa and Flash.

An upgrade of the disto for users who already have Easy Peasy should be available from today. For everyone else, a distribution ISO is already ready for download.
