Lucasfilm Goes for Trolltech’s Qt

Oct 16, 2007

Lucasfilm Limited, famous for its movie projects such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones, will be using Qt as the user interface for the development of digital entertainment software in future.

Steve Sullivan, Director of Research and Development, explained the move: "Our previous UI framework was already stretched to a point that could no longer meet our growing needs, and signing on with Trolltech was the smart move for us. Using Qt will not only save us time and money, but also let us focus more on innovation." Lucasfilm had already used Qt for a number of smaller projects, appreciated the user-friendly experience, and the options it opened up for cross-platform development. Besides Lucasfilm other major animation studios, such as Walt Disney Feature Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks all rely on the Qt platform by Norwegian developers Trolltech.
