Concern at Red Hat: New Marketing Boss – Poorer Rating

Sep 25, 2007

Linux distributor Red Hat has promoted its previous Boss of Red Hat China, Michael Chen, to Vice President Enterprise Marketing. Chen will be assuming responsibility for global branding and enterprise communications.

Chen is the successor of Tim Yeaton, who had held the position since 2005 and left the company recently. Business administration expert Michael Chen has been with Red Hat since 2002, and started his career in product management. The new job for the marketing chief will mean moving to company headquarters in Raleigh.

Red Hat really doesn't need staff problems right now as the company has more than enough on its plate with its recent rating. Analysts downgraded Red Hat shares from "outperforming" to "neutral"; the target share price was revised from US$ 27 to 22. Financial experts from Credit Suisse quote internal organizational and structure issues that had begun with the acquisition of middleware vendor Jboss as the reason.
