Fedora 9 Goes Beta

Mar 25, 2008

The Fedora project has just released the beta version of the upcoming Fedora 9 distribution.

Fedora 9 Goes Beta

This takes the Red Hat-sponsored community distribution one step farther towards completion, which is scheduled for April 29.

The beta includes Gnome 2.22 and KDE 4.0.2, the current versions of the two major desktop environments. Version 3, beta 5 of the Firefox browser is also included.

The beta phase will run until April 8 and will be followed by a final freeze. The developers hope that many programmers and inquisitive users will test the Fedora pre-release in the mean time. To facilitate this, the Pre-Release site has installable media, live CDs and DVDs as HTTP, Bittorrent or Jigdo downloadable images.
