OpenOffice 3.0.1: Bug Fixes and Grammar Checking

Jan 28, 2009

With a bug fix release the OpenOffice team has enhanced its free open application suite and added a few features in the mix.

OpenOffice.org includes a full list of the fixes and other system maintenance provisions in their release notes.

Although the version number indicates a mere bug fix release, OpenOffice 3.0.1 packs in a couple new features. Among them an API for a grammar checker in the Writer text editor. The project's Florian Effenberger describes the API as a way of integrating external grammar checking tools, and the Writer language dialog box was adapted to show the name (and available logo) of the integrated tool. In addition, the user dictionary now allows a maximum 30,000 entries (up from 2,000).

OpenOffice downloads for diverse platforms and around 90 localizations are available here. The mirror sites have the newest update with the localized versions in the /localized directory at each site.
