Firefox Alpha with Video-Support

Sep 08, 2008

The second early Firefox 3.1 test version (code-named Shiretoko Alpha 2) provides at first glance a video tag, which allows audio and video to be played in free Ogg/Theora format.

The native Ogg/Theora multimedia support is a component of HTML 5 that is currently in development.

Another feature of the Firefox 3.1 alpha version relates to the usability of the browser by way of web worker threads. These threads are designed to move expensive computations to a background function without directly affecting the user interface.

The release notes for the test version include further details. Available downloads are for Linux, Mac OS X, und Windows.
