Collaboration Package by Bull with Server, Xandros and O3spaces

The French hardware vendor offers an enterprise document and news management solution with a dual core server, Xandros Linux and O3spaces as a bundle.

Bull’s package deal from its modular Opencenter product family costs around 14,520 euros including VAT, three years’ hardware and software maintenance and support, commissioning, installation of server and software, data integration and one day’s training for users. The O3spaces license is for 100 seats.

The server is a Bull Novascale T840. Bull specified the components on request: an Intel Xeon E5130 dual core (2 GHz), 2 GByte Fully Buffered RAM, two 250GB SATA hard disks with hot-swap support, redundant power supply, floppy and DVD drive. Without the package, the server would cost 3,046 euros with three years’ on-site service, according to the Bull price list.

Xandros Linux for servers costs around 535 euros without support, and one year’s standard support around 1070 euros, both including VAT. O3spaces is a document management extension for Open Office which is commercially licensed for business use. The costs for five to 100 users are around 70 euros per seat including VAT. Support includes five calls, a customer forum and email support.

The collaboration package adds value on top of individual purchases thanks to ready-to-run hardware and software installation and single source support for the hardware, the operating system and the collaboration software, said Bull’s marketing manager for Intel products in Europe talking to Linux Magazine, adding that Bull will be supplying the server either with or without the package with an Intel Xeon E5310 (1,6 GHz) Quadcore for the same price starting in November.

The Opencenter series combines Bull’s own server hardware with proprietary Open Source products. Bundles have various focuses, such as the collaboration bundle discussed in this news item.
