On the DVD
64-bit
Clonezilla is not a typical distribution. Rather, it is a Live DVD for running utilities for disk imaging, cloning, and bare metal system deployment from a single source. It can be run from a flash drive DVD or an Android phone. You can run Clonezilla locally or over a network for most filesystems, as well as on 32- or 64-bit filesystems. You can use Clonezilla with encrypted images or with BitTorrent when an image is especially large. Despite such versatility, its system requirements are minimal: X86 and 194MB of RAM. In most cases, the only limitations are that the destination partition must be unmounted and at least as large as the source image. In addition, incremental backups are currently not supported.
Clonezilla is often compared to programs on other operating systems, such as True Image or Norton Ghost. The comparison is apt, but Clonezilla's comprehensiveness means that it can take some time to learn. Admins might want to familiarize themselves with Clonezilla before it is needed and keep a current copy close at hand for when it is needed. Once learned, it soon becomes an essential tool in the open source toolbox.
