Fedora Asahi Released for Macs with Apple Silicon
If you've been anxious to try Fedora on your Apple Silicon-powered Mac device, that time has finally come, thanks to Fedora Asahi.
Good news for those with devices using Apple M1- or M2-series processors who want to install Linux. The Asahi team has released the Fedora Asahi Remix.
This remix is based on Fedora 39 and defaults to the KDE Plasma desktop (although you can opt for GNOME if you prefer).
Both desktop environments use Wayland but also support X11 by way of XWayland. This remix ships with non-conformant OpenGL 3.3, which includes GPU-accelerated geometry shaders and the world's first certified conformant OpenGL ES 3.1 specific for Apple Silicon.
According to the Fedora Asahi Remix site, "With Fedora’s excellent 64-bit ARM support and mature development process, you can expect a solid and high-quality experience without any unwanted surprises."
The site continues, "Fedora Asahi Remix is based on Fedora Linux 39, the latest Fedora Linux release with the newest software versions across the board. All M1 and M2 series MacBook, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and iMac devices are supported."
The Fedora Asahi Remix team also worked hard to pioneer the first full-integrated DSP solution for desktop Linux for high-quality audio.
Devices that are supported by this remix are MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, iMac, and Mac Pro.
Read more and find out how to install the Fedora remix on the official Fedora Asahi Remix site.
