OpenOffice.org on Puppy Linux
Puppy Linux is an excellent Linux distro for all occasions, but to turn it into a real productivity workhorse, you might want to install OpenOffice.org on it. Unfortunately, the Puppy software repository holds an older version of OpenOffice.org, but you can install the latest release of the productivity suite by following the steps bellow:
- Download the openoffice-2.4.1.sfs squash file.
- Move the downloaded file to the /mnt/home directory
- Choose Menu -> Setup -> Wizard Wizard -> Configure startup of Puppy -> Choose which extra SFS files to load at bootup.
- Add the openoffice-2.4.1.sfs file and make sure that the Ignore above user selection check box is unticked.
- Reboot Puppy Linux and you should see OpenOffice.org items in the Menu -> Documents menu.
Since many OpenOffice.org features require the Java Runtime Environment, you might want to install it as well. To do this, download the latest Sun Java runtime Sun .pup package and install it using the PET package manager. If you are running Puppy Linux version 4.0 or higher, you need to download and install the .pet package containing the Java Runtime Environment.

That's it. Now you have Puppy Linux with the latest version of OpenOffice.org.

I found the username and password on another site, and no one needs an account to get this file. All you do is type in this :username = puppy
password = Linux
The reason this file is via username and password is to keep away spammers.
I just downloaded this file OK.
The .sfs Open Office file link is.........

The link goes to a password protected area and the public cannot get an account there.Just leaving this as an FYI.

The file in this article is at a link which is password protected and the public can't even download it nor get an account.Makes me wonder why it's even listed in the article like it's any good. Go figure.
