Grml 2008.11 with Libata, but without Truecrypt
Aimed mainly at sysadmins and text tool users, the Debian-based Linux distribution Grml is now available in version 2008.11.
Based on the latest stable vanilla kernel 2.6.26.8, the release also contains patches and modules like Madwifi and Ndiswrapper for Wifi chipsets, the GSPCA webcam driver and the network data system OpenAFS. Fglrx and Nividia drivers are not included but can be installed from the online repository. More about the Grml kernel can be found on the project webpage.
Stand of the Grml software packages is comparable with the Debian-Branch-Unstable from Nov 20, 2008, with some packages receiving updates. "Grml-live" for the production of live media, and "grml-debootstrap" for Debian installation have been added to the distros admin script.
The project has abandoned the old IDE drivers in favor of the Libata library: hence the change in the first IDE harddrive from "/dev/hda" to "/dev/sda". Truecrypt has been dropped because of license problems. Further details are available in the release notes. Grml for 32 and 64 Bit Intel machines and in the variations medium and small can be obtained from the download page. Downloads are possible via Bittorrent and HTTP/FTP mirror servers.
