Perl Audio Converter Extends Choice of Formats
Version 4.0.0 of the Perl Audio Converter (PAC) has just been released; the program can now handle a wider variety of file types.
Besides popular audio formats such as WAV, MP3, OGG Vorbis and FLAC, the converter previously supported Realaudio, BONK and many other formats. In addition to this PAC can extract the sound data from video files (MPEG, M4V, ASF, Quicktime and others). Now the program has support for Speex, a free speech codec, and many other formats such as SD2 and IRCAM.
At the same time, the developers have fixed various bugs, and volunteer translators have added languages support for Spanish, Polish and Chinese. The source code for the program has been released under the GPLv3; and various package formats are available from the project homepage, along with extensions that integrate the command line tool as a utility for GUI-based applications such as Konqueror and Amarok.
