The new release of the GNU desktop spoils users for choice with a whole bunch of innovations.

The KDE development team has set itself beta goals as milestones en route to the first release candidate. An initial release candidate of the KDE 4.0 developer platform is now available along with the improved beta four.

The third beta release sees the KDE team freeze the development platform and includes further code clean-up work. The developers have concentrated on libraries since the second beta, but there are some more visible changes, too.
