Opensuse's Build Service Offers Three OpenOffice Versions

Three new branches in Opensuse's build service provide various OpenOffice packages: stable, unstable and extras. This replaces the previous OpenOffice build service.

The Stable Version is the current stable version (2.2.1) of the OpenOffice package for Suse distributions. The branch with the unstable version offers OpenOffice packages for the developer version of OpenOffice. These packages are the same as the OpenOffice package in Suse Factory, which offers downloads of the latest Opensuse developer versions. The Extras version contains add-ons such as dictionaries and templates, both of which are usable in combination with the stable and unstable versions.

All OpenOffice packages are available for the current 10.2 stable version of Opensuse, its predecessors Suse Linux 10.0 and 10.1, and Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.0. To download one of the OpenOffice versions from the build service, users can launch Yast and add the path to the repository to view information on the available software packages. Yast will download the OpenOffice version and update the existing version if so desired. The RPMs in the Yast "Software Installation" module do not include the stable, unstable or extra names, but simply state the version numbers besides indicating the status and the installation path.

The Software Search Area of the build service also gives users who search for "Openoffice" the ability to download individual package components so that users can just download template packages, or individual translations without needing to install the complete package.
