Opera 9.5 Beta Test Starts

One year after releasing version 9 Norwegian software developers Opera have now officially opened the public test phase for version 9.5 of the Opera browser. The Linux version integrates Qt4.

The developers have also reworked the browser's rendering engine. Opera 9.5 handles CSS 3 better, offers extended SVG support and has a new Javascript engine.

To improve usability, the Norwegians have included a barrier free useage interface, although it only interfaces with Windows and Mac OS X programs. Keyboard based navigation and reworked shortcuts are also more consistent, thus simplifying use.

The Qt4 build for Linux gives users the ability to modify the Opera user interface to match their screens. Unix users will notice major speed benefits for tabbed browsing. The beta version of the browser is available right now from the Opera website. Opera has Linux versions for i386, PowerPC and Sparc. You can select one of these architectures to access the packages for various Linux distributions. The changelog has a full list of new features and changes for the browser.
