Linux Mint 12 "Lisa"

This month’s DVD includes the latest release from the popular Linux Mint project. Mint has gained an enthusiastic reputation for reliability and simplicity, and many consider it the rival of Ubuntu as a leading free desktop Linux. Mint 12 “Lisa” is based on Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot and is compatible with the Ubuntu repositories.
The latest Mint includes a Gnome 3 shell retrofitted with extensions for a “classic” desktop experience. The default configuration comes with a bottom panel, desktop switcher, and window list. If you want to try out the full Gnome 3 environment, you can turn off the Mint extensions for the standard Gnome 3 look and feel.
Linux Mint is known for its sophisticated multimedia playback features, and Version 12 doesn’t fall short: Lots of preinstalled and preconfigured multimedia codecs enable out-of-the-box playback for most audio and video files.
