The Fischertechnik Maker Kit Bionic lets you enter the world of walking robots. We'll show you what it takes to bring this robot to life.
Ever since the first Star Wars movie, I've been fascinated by all kinds of walking robots. The Fischertechnik Maker Kit Bionic (Figure 1) may not be an All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT), but it's a great choice for getting started on your desktop. In addition to building a walking robot, you will also learn the underlying principles.

As the full kit's name is a tad long-winded, I decided to give the bot on my desktop its own name. In the maker scene, robots of this type are often referred to as "cats," so I decided that Tom was a very fitting name for this model. Tom consists of 161 parts and provides a good foundation for building your own walking robot. The eight servo motors included in the kit allow the legs to move. In addition, there is enough space on the chassis to accommodate your choice of electronics.
