A More Stand-Out KDE Desktop

Professional design comes into the forefront with KDE 4. This is something that should naturally also be evident for users, and so a branding service is being introduced into the project’s distributions.

The background image, symbols, and operating elements of KDE 4 fit together masterfully. In contrast, the implementations of the single distributions are obviously not at the same level. In some cases, horrific color schemes and background photos are present to the point where they can scarcely be recognized as KDE 4.

The KDE designer and plasma developer would like to put these bad standards to rest and establish a uniform KDE visual brand. The thus summoned into being KDE branding service builds upon the standard background image of the KDE version and individually passes on the button for the main menu or single elements thereof.

The KDE project would like to accomplish the following in the process:

• Every KDE 4 destop should be recognized as such
• Every KDE 4 desktop should also have an individualized distribution-specific touch

The plan of action published byAaron Seigo and Nuno Pinheiro also outlines the goal to build up the strength of KDE’s brand image to make it a recognizeable brand name on the worldwide level.
