ASUS Announces a Single-Board Computer
The form factor of the board makes it a drop-in replacement for Raspberry Pi.
ASUS has announced a single-board computer, dubbed Tinker Board, targeting the Raspberry Pi community.
The board comes with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A17 processor, 3GB of DDR3 RAM, and an ARM Mali-T764 GPU. Tinker Board has a faster Gigabit Ethernet port and support for 4K video output. The board comes with four USB ports, built-in WiFi, and 40 GPIO pins and has the same form factor as the Raspberry Pi 3, making it an ideal drop-in replacement.
The biggest challenge for Tinker Board is software and hardware. Raspberry Pi enjoys a huge hardware and software ecosystem. Its Compute Module is being used not only by DIY hobbyists, but also by big companies like NEC in their corporate products.
One area where the ASUS Tinker Board might shine is in multimedia applications with its Mali GPU, 4K HDMI output, and powerful processor.
The board is currently available in the UK at Farnell for £45.83.
