Andi Gutmans, cofounder of Zend Technologies, has been named CEO of "the PHP company" in California.
Gutmans, originally from Israel, was previously senior VP for R&D and alliances at Zend. He had written PHPv3 and the Zend Engine, the core of PHPv4, together with Zeev Suravski. Together they founded Zend (a combination of their first names) in 1999. In the announcement of his appointment, Gutmans re-emphasized the firm's commitment to the Open Source community.
Past CEO Harold Goldberg, who had been in the position for the past two years, has left Zend to pursue other opportunities. Meanwhile Mark Burton, previously executive VP of worldwide sales and alliances at database provider MySQL, has become executive chairman of Zend.
