Android: Open Apps Success Story

Just one week since Google opened Android Market for external applications, and already the medialets blog has announced 167 downloaded apps.

The old favourite Pac Man game and a weather channel have proven to be the most popular downloads, numbering between 50.000 and 250.000.

Android Market itself doesn't give us absolute download values and medialets statistics are self-founded. As yet there are no official numbers from Google. In particular, the blog examines and compares the market positions of iPhone and Android. Between 667.00 and 2.5 million downloaded applications have been counted for Android to date, with tools, games, lifestyle, multimedia and productivity the most successful categories.
