Debian Conference 2009 in Spain’s Extremadura

Debconf, the annual Debian Project Conference will be taking place in Spain’s Extremadura region 2009, as Jörg Jaspert announced on the free software project’s mailing list.

According to the announcement, Debconf 9 will probably take place in September or October 2009. The Debian team will be looking to set up an area for Debconf9 on the Debconf website early in 2008; a Wiki page is already available.

The Extremadura Region has close ties to the Debian project: the regional government decided to migrate all computers in public administration and schools to free software back in 2002, choosing the Debian-based Gnulinex distribution.

But, of course, the Debian Project will first be hosting Debconf 8, which will take place August 2008 in Argentina.
