FOSDEM 2008: Jam-packed program, free video stream

The annual developers’ conference FOSDEM will take place in Brussels on February 23 and 24, 2008. As a teaser, organizers of the open-source event have now placed interviews with some of the speakers online.

Among those surveyed is Bill Hoffman, one of the lead developers of the modern build system CMake, and Robin Rowe, who will present the Cinepaint software and talk about the use of Linux in the movie industry. Patrick Michaud will speak about his work on the Perl 6 compiler for Parrot.

Other papers in the FOSDEM '08 schedule are concerned with the programming languages PHP 6 and JRuby, and with software packaging using Klik, Packagekit and Conary. A Virtualization track contains talks on Xen, Virtualbox and OpenQRM, while the Web track looks at Mozilla’s Prism and other topics.

The many Developer Rooms will be hives of activity, with prolonged work sessions scheduled for free software projects such as Debian, Gnome, KDE and OpenOffice. The event will be held at the Solbosch campus of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (the Free University of Brussels). Entry is free of charge.

This year, Linux Magazine is offering a special service for anyone who cannot make it to the event in person.
