Google Summer of Code 2010 in Starting Blocks

Search engine maker Google is again providing scholarships in 2010 for student open source works. Information is now first hand this week in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.

Wednesday, March 10, Dirk Haun, maintainer of the PHP-based Geeklog open source portal, will speak about Google's Summer of Code. The talk will take place at 7:00 PM at the offices of the Business Development Region Stuttgart GmbH.

Thursday, March 11, information about Google's scholarship program, as presented by its mentor organizations Debian and KDE, are available at the University of Karlsruhe in Building 50.34 (Infobau), room HS-101, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. KDE developers Lydia Pintscher, Sven Krohlas and Phillip Kern will have accounts of their experiences.

The meetings are important places to gather details about the 2010 Google Summer of Code. Open source project mentors are already starting to register with Google. Students interested in participating should begin discussing their projects with their mentor organizations on March 18. The deadline for student applications is April 9. Further details are on Google's Summer of Code webpage.
