Aug 06, 2009

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies has started shipping what they say is the first 3,5-inch disk with a 2 terabyte capacity: the Deskstar 7K2000.

With a 32MB data cache and using perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR), Hitachi packs the 2TB onto five disks. The SATA platter spins at 7200rpm and maximum transfer rate is 3Gb/s.

Aimed at power users, Hitachi is asking $329 for the hard drive. Further information is available on the manufacturer's website.
