KDE 4 for Netbooks: Work on Plasma Begins

At the last KDE developer's Akademy conference, the Plasma team had assembled some ideas for KDE 4 on netbooks. These ideas will now become reality.

As Plasma chief guru and Trolltech developer Aaron Seigo reports in his blog, teammates Marco Martin and Artur Souza were deployed to work on the netbook interface. Their goal is to integrate the final version into KDE 4.4, which is to appear earliest the end of 2009.

Seigo emphasizes that the interface won't be for smaller laptops or larger handhelds, but strictly for netbooks, which have "a unique set of use cases." The intent among other things is to optimize full screen usage. The still relatively new team hopes that some of its results will flow into this year's Google Summer of Code.
