Multi-Touch for Qt Making Progress
Support for multi-touch in the Qt GUI toolkit is making visible progress, as demonstrated by the Qt development team on their blog.
At Qt Labs, the newest development is that the user interface will allow users to manipulate multiple widgets, such as with two or more fingers on both hands. Two short videos on Bradley T. Hughes's blog entry provide a teaser for how this might look in practice.
Thanks to a recently successful move of Qt development to an open Git repository (as we reported), the community can now participate in the current LGPL source code. The newest code for multitouch-and-gestures can now also be found there.
Less exciting for the open source community is that Qt's progress on multi-touch is currently limited to Windows 7 development and testing only. According to Hughes, the Windows 7 release candidate is the only platform so far that supports a multi-touch API. Qt is looking into Linux support, for example, by integrating with a third-party library.
