Oracle Intentions: Move OpenOffice.org to the Community
Apr 18, 2011
Oracle announced its intentions to move OpenOffice.org to a community-based open source project and to no longer offer a commercial version of Open Office.
"We intend to begin working immediately with community members to further the continued success of Open Office. Oracle will continue to strongly support the adoption of open standards-based document formats, such as the Open Document Format (ODF)," said Edward Screven, Oracle’s Chief Corporate Architect.
Oracle's press release only states that it is their intention to move OpenOffice.org to the community, yet no date was given for when this move would occur; however, Oracle states it is committed to open source technologies and remains focused on Linux and mySQL.
