Sims 3 Support by Cedega

The Wine-based commercial software Cedega offers with its new 7.3 release support for the latest version of Sims.

This doesn't happen often in Linux. Part 3 of Sims has only just been released and thanks to Cedega it can be played already. Usually it takes a while before popular games can be played on a free platform. Among the numerous top games Linux gamers are still waiting for is Unreal Tournament 3, the action game that officially appeared towards the end of 2007.

Now here's the catch. Game fans will not only have to pay for the game, they'll also need a subscription with Cedega and a Nvidia FX card, which according to Cedega is the only one to run problem free. For ATI cards with proprietary drivers the software company is making no promises and other drivers get support solely from the Cedega community.

Along with the support for Sims, Cedega 7.3 comes with various bugfixes and has solved problems with the keys for City of Heroes and unwanted advertising banners in Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. Its also a little faster. The software uses a modified Wine to get the Windows games to run on Linux. At the moment, the new Cedega can be tested on the SPORE Creature Creator.
