Instability vs. Versatility
MultiTail is a sprawling program, so much larger than Tail that it makes Tail look like a toy. However, its size also means that, in any given release, one or more areas of functionality may be unstable. Segmentation faults have a bad habit of popping up unexpectedly, and, more frequently, an option or keyboard command simply does not work or closes down MultiTail altogether.
In some cases, upgrading the ncurses library may help. In other cases, your best chance to avoid being thwarted by a bug is to keep to the basic functionality. The functionality I have mentioned here works on my system, but you might get different results on yours. To say the least, this instability can be annoying. Despite this ongoing problem, however, MultiTail is too versatile to ignore without trying it first, and when it works, you can appreciate its versatility.
