Embedded Platform: Wind River Linux 3.0

Apr 01, 2009

Wind River has released Version 3.0 of the Linux platform for embedded device development.

Linux kernel 2.6.27 and the GNU Compiler Collection 4.3 provide the basis for these updates. In addition, the manufacturer now offers more than 500 software packages which provide many multimedia and interface options. Multicore hardware and the kernel-based Virtual Machine are updates which enable users to optimize the functionality of the hardware.
The manufacturer has also changed gears in terms of strategy. The new Linux platform
is intended to several separate platforms which were prior used for specific hardware in specialized industries. Costs for the new product are to stay at a consistent level according to Wind River.

Wind River has been able to fulfill the specifications according to Carrier Grade Linux 4.0 for quite some time now. Among the supported systems is the UltraSPARC-T2 architecture from Sun.
