Faster Package Management for Suse 11.0
Suse developer Duncan Mac-Vicar gives a sneak preview of the next generation version of Novell’s Zypper package manager in his blog.
Thanks to a new Solver algorithm Zypper can now resolve dependencies more quickly; on top of this, the meta data structure was optimized for more speed. The new Solver will also make more meaningful suggestions to users in case of conflicting packages.
Mac-Vicar demonstrates the major advances in a short screencast on his blog site. You can see how much faster Zypper responds after an installation command. The package management back-end is currently in testing, and only basic functionality has been implemented, however, Opensuse 11.0 will include the new Zypper.
