Ubuntu Marching On: RC for Lucid Lynx
Canonical has made the release candidate for Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" available for download. It's free for anyone to test.
As Steve Langasek reports on the Ubuntu announce list, the RC is ready, stable and usable. Within a week, Canonical wants to release the final version of Ubuntu 10.04 for download. It is to be an LTS version with three-year desktop and five-year server installation support.
Among the important new features in Ubuntu 10.04, next to completely new artwork, are a much faster boot process, integration of numerous programs in the System menu of the GNOME panel, the Ubuntu One Music Store, and extended program choices.
The RC, according to the release notes, is available for testing upgrades from Ubuntu 9.10 or the last LTS version 8.0.4.4. Canonic still wants to fix a few critical bugs within the next week, including the recent X server memory leak problem.
