The new edition of the Russian distro comes with bugfixes for the network manager, default printer settings and an updated version of OpenOffice 3.0.
News of the release was made public by Alexey Rusakov on the ALT Linux announce list. Among the more important changes to version 4.1 are OpenOffice and improvements in Compiz support, enabling the 3D desktop to be switched on and off over the menu. A 32Bit ALT Linux installation DVD in English is also available.
Further changes include:
- Improved stability of the network manager
- Fixes in the network manager PPPoE operations
- Improvements in the printer settings with KDE
- Frequency scaling bug fixed - Various other small bug fixes
Built around a 2.6.25 kernel, ALT Linux 4.1.1 comes with a KDE 3.5.10 Desktop as standard. ALT is considered to be the most popular distribution in Russia, and is used widely in Russian schools. Fifty full-time developers provide a solid team for ALT Linux.
