Drupal 7.0 Alpha 5 Released

First Drupal 7.0 beta tentatively scheduled for June 21

Drupal, the open source content management system, announced the release of its fifth alpha candidate for version 7.0. Among the rather vague list of improvements in Alpha 5 are "numerous upgrade path fixes," "numerous security path fixes, " and "lots and lots of critical bug fixes."

Elsewhere on the Drupal site, a full list of issues blocking a beta release were identified and detailed. There are 22 unresolved critical issues at the time of this writing that are upholding the beta The community is encouraged to set up the development environment and help solve said issues. Until these issues are resolved, a beta isn't happening.

The tentative timetable for Drupal 7.0 beta is tentatively scheduled for a June 21 release, but if the 22 remaining critical bugs aren't fixed, then Drupal 7.0 will get its sixth alpha.

The Drupal 7.0 alphas are intended for testing only, as the upgrade path does't work without some tinkering and none of the upgrades are transferable from one version to another.
