The newest version of the open source of the A/V recording and conversion tool was codenamed “Works With HTML5” for obvious reasons.
The FFmpeg project released version 0.6 of the audio and video converter adds myriad improvements relevant to the HTML5 Web standard. The features in the new release (codenamed appropriately “Works with HTML5”) include VP8 support via Google's libvpx library, WebM support in Matroska de/muxer and a Dirac in Ogg demuxer.
The H.264 proprietary codec, but HTML5 video codec supported by both Microsoft and Apple received optimizations making it significantly faster. Full features and specific command line instructions can be found at the FFmpeg documentation page. Also, here's the changelog.
