Jasper Reports 3.0 with Advanced Excel Formula Handling

May 21, 2008

Version 3.0.0 of Jasper Reports, a free Java report generating library with advanced export functionality has just been released.

New properties, which can be defined for each element in the generated report, add more flexibility. Element properties can also be specified as expressions that are evaluated on generating the documents.

The major innovations relate to exporting to Microsoft's Excel format, XLS: developers can specify cell formulas in the "net.sf.jasperreports.export.xls.formula" property; the formulas can either be evaluated or inserted into the Excel document as is. The program now has more elegant page break handling thanks to the new "net.sf.jasperreports.export.xls.break.before.row" and "net.sf.jasperreports.export.xls.break.after.row" properties.

On top of this, there is an experimental export feature to Microsoft's Excel XMLSS format, which can output large documents as a stream. More changes are listed in the Changelog.

Jasper Reports is licensed under the LGPL. The current 3.0.0 version is available for downloading as a source code or Jar archive on the project website.

  • Exporting reports from JasperReports in Excel, Word and PowerPoint formats

Very informative. But Aspose is going to introduce “Aspose.Cells for JasperReports” in near future to convert reports from JasperReports in Excel format. Currently, Aspose enables JasperReports developers to export their reports in PowerPoint (PPT, PPS) and Word document (DOC, DOCX, HTML and TXT) formats. I hope this reference URL will help http://www.aspose.com/categ...reports-exporters/default.aspx
