Linux Plumbers Conference: Day 2 Wrap Up

The second day of the Linux Plumbers Conference in Portland, Oregon began with an informative address by Jonathan Corbet of LWN.net. After Corbet talked about the challenge of sustaining such a high rate of kernel development (4-5 releases a year), attendees went on to face the biggest challenge of the day: choosing from the multitude of available sessions.

From Linux server management to the well-attended power management microconference, the LPC had something for nearly everyone. Presenters didn't just offer their solutions for developer consumption. A couple of the speakers made it clear that they were discussing the problems they were having in an attempt to put the brains in the room to use. It was a successful approach – more than once, audience members contributed their skills to the given problem.

The day culminated with a cocktail social where the buzz in the room was the sound of verbal hacking. Small groups gathered in corners, in empty conference rooms, and in the hallways for scheduled – and impromptu – birds of a feather sessions, just as the conference organizers hoped they would, to push project development one step further.
