Open Office 2.3.1 Removes Bugs

The latest version of the office suite, version 2.3.1, removes bugs and closes vulnerabilities.

According to Florian Effenberger, the project’s spokesperson in Germany, this is a bugfix release, and users are advised to update. Among other things the version resolves a security issue with database files. Updating can thus mitigate the danger of a system compromise.

As usual, the office package is available for downloading from the project website along with the release notes. As an alternative major distributions will be providing updates via their package management systems in the near future. Version 2.4 of OpenOffice is likely to be released in March 2008.
