Version 1.0.0 of the free implementation of SSL and TLS protocols, OpenSSL, is now available in a major release.
Compared to its forerunner, 0.9.8n, the latest version has undergone fixes and new features have been added. The release brings to an end the beta phase which began in April 2009. According to the developer team, significant changes include the default switch of private key formats to PKCS#8 and integrated support for PVK files.
The announcement, complete with feature list, can be found here. Downloads are available at one of the mirror servers. The project recommend an update to the new version, which they say, is the best release yet.
