Sun Presents Glassfish Server v2

The Java server includes Netbeans and is released under a dual license: Sun CDDL v1.0 and GPL v2.

The Metro project supports collaboration between Web services on Java platforms in Windows environments. Open ESP integrates Web services, and finally, the Netbeans IDE is now supported. Other enhancements concern clustering capabilities and centralized administration.

Due to cooperation with Netbeans, the source code has been released under a dual software license. Sun has its own license known as the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL) v1.0, which was recognized by the Open Source Initiative (OSI) in 2005. Netbeans is released under GPLv2. The Netbeans project has set up its own FAQ section to answer questions concerning dual licensing with Sun.

Glassfish is a Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5 Application Server and the free version of the Sun Java System Application Servers (currently Version: 9.1). The Glassfish documentation is thus identical to the documentation for the commercial variant. The software is available from Sun's project website either as a binary Jar file or as a source Zip file for Linux, Solaris, Windows and Mac OS X.
