Akademy and GUADEC co-located on Canary Islands

In July this year, the KDE community conference (Akademy) and the Gnome Users and Developers' Conference (GUADEC) will for the first time be co-located on the Spanish Canary Islands. Registration for the event has already opened and KDE is calling for presentation submissions.

The KDE community obviously enjoys island-hopping. In January it was Jamaica for the Camp KDE, in July it's Las Palmas on the holiday island of Gran Canaria and this time, the Gnome developers conference will be there too. The co-operation intends to strengthen ties between the desktop projects.

The double summit takes place from July 3 to July 11 and due to the expected run on available places (Canary Islands...who wouldn't?), organizers recommend a prompt registration. Announcement of the event was accompanied by the KDE Project's "call for participation" to the Akademy. This year's presentation key points, besides beauty and functionality, will also include portability. A sure sign that KDE has cast its developer eye upon mobile devices.

With a tight time-window, deadline for proposal submission is April 10, 2009. More information can be found on the KDE website.
