About MySQL, Java, OpenJDK and more

Interview with Sun's Chief Open Source Officer Simon Phipps

By Mathias Huber

Simon Phipps is responsible for about 750 Open Source projects at Sun Microsystems. Linux Magazine Online spoke with the British developer about topics such as Java and the newly acquired MySQL.

The topics discussed mainly encompassed which future MySQL code would be available under free licensing and which would not. As an aside, Phipps speaks about the relationship between OpenJDK and Sun Java.

To wrap things up, the Open Source guru voiced his opinion about the problem of software patenting and how it relates to free software licensing.
