IBM, Sun Microsystems, PGP, Red Hat and other firms have formed a standards working group in the OASIS organization to develop a new Key Management Interoperability Protocol (KMIP) for encryption key management.

A recent test shows that the promised Open Document Format (ODF) compatibility of Microsoft Office Service Pack 2 is far from it. At least table calculations in Excel SP2 demonstrate big problems when converting ODF values.

It's not the first time Microsoft has tried to wrestle away market share from free software using shady tactics. Suddenly, Microsoft seems to have discovered that education is strategic for their enterprise and they are pouring resources into cornering the market... at least in areas where Linux has the lead.
